JPAY PROVIDES "FREE REPLY WEDNESDAY" BETWEEN APRIL 15, 2020 AND MAY 6, 2020, BUT DOESN'T NOTIFY PRISONERS UNTIL AFTERNOON OF LAST WEDNESDAY BEFORE EXPIRATION OF PROGRAM

In a program designed to help prisoners maintain contact with loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic, JPay created "Free Reply Wednesday". Problem is, they never told anyone about it until the program has all but ended.

In an email received mid-afternoon on Wednesday April 29, 2020 from JPay, IDOC prisoners were first informed of the program which, according to the email began April 15, 2020, leaving just next Wednesday for prisoners or their family/friends to benefit from the program. In speaking with CenturyLink technicians late Wednesday afternoon (4/29) they too had never heard of the program before today.

While JPay gets some credit for trying to provide means to keep communications with family and friends open during these tough days, it would seem that they need to learn to communicate better themselves.

Here's the email from JPay received on 4/29/20:

Dear JPay Customer,

Don't forget! Today is Free Reply Wednesday. Every time your family or friends send you a secure message on a Wednesday (12:00 AM ET to 12:00 AM ET) during the promotional period, April 15, 2020 May 6, 2020, the JPay system will include a prepaid reply at no additional cost. Your can use the free reply at any time, but can only reply back to the original sender.

IMPORTANT: Please tell your family and friends that if they send secure messages through the JPay mobile app, they must check the Prepaid reply box before sending the email in order to send the free reply. If they send the secure message through their JPay account on the JPay website, the free reply will automatically be added.

The remaining Wednesdays left in the Free Reply Wednesdays promotion are 4/29/2020 and 5/6/2020.

Warm regards,

Your JPay Team
