12/13/2021 A MESSAGE FROM TIMOTHY LEIGH, REENTRY MANAGER

Greetings Everyone,

Currently, housing in Idaho is in very short supply and that includes transitional housing for people leaving prison. This means you could face delays in your release if you are planning to use IDOC transitional housing when you get released. While we are working hard to find solutions, you may want to consider safe alternatives to transitional housing if you have them, such as living with friends or family.

Below is additional information about thehousing shortage in Idaho right now.

In the most recent Census (2020) the state of grew by 17.8% making it the second fastest growing state in the country. Out of that growth around 70% of the new Idahoans moved to the Treasure Valley area. The average rent in the treasure valley is up 30.8% since 2020 which equates to the average rent in Boise being around $1650.

The current vacancy rate of rental properties in the treasure valley is less than 1%. This is making renting a very challenging and competitive process for the average adult and even harder for people coming out of prison.
A few transitional housing providers have been forced to reduce the number of houses they had available for transitional living due to the owners of the homes (Not the Provider) choosing to sell the home instead of renting it to our provider.

There are very few options for low-income rentals and housing, which in turn, make it hard to transition out of transitional or sober living homes.
turning citizens are staying in the transitional homes much longer and in some cases have lived there upwards of 7 years. This has been a long-standing issue has compounded over the years.

Case managers are working very hard for you to find transitional homes, but supply is extremely limited. Again, please consider other options and talk with your case manager about them.

Once you have completed these steps, the Editors Picks verbiage on the tablet will be replaced with 2021 Top Selling Artists Sale, and you will be able to browse and purchase the sale items in this section.

On Saturday December 18th, 2021 the sale will end, and the Editors Picks verbiage will return on the kiosk. The content in this section will be replaced with our curated suggestions.
