1/14/22 MESSAGE FROM IDOC DEPUTY DIRECTOR
Hello everyone,
COVID-19 continues to throw curve balls our way, and as a result, we will temporarily be moving all facilities in the south Boise area and eastern Idaho to a modified-secure status. Modified-secure status means that activities, programs and movement within the facilities will be temporarily limited.
Currently, Idaho is seeing a record high number of new cases thanks to the Omicron variant. On January 12th, the state recorded 2,821 new cases, exceeding our past one-day high by more than 600 cases. Between last week and this week, the counties with greatest numbers of cases are: Bonneville, Canyon, Bannock, Ada, Madison, and Kootenai. Unfortunately, those are the same counties where a bulk of our IDOC facilities are located. As a result of these high rates and our increasing number of positive cases for staff and residents, we are moving all prison facilities in the south Boise area (i.e., ISCC, ISCI, IMSI, SICI, and SBWCC) and eastern Idaho (PWCC, SAWC) to a modified-secure status for the next two weeks.
We will continue to evaluate the on-the-ground risks for all of our facilities and adjust accordingly. Off-compound work is permitted as long as conditions on the ground support it, and resident workers comply with established COVID safety protocols.
At this time, our northern facilities (NICI and ICIO) and our Community Reentry Centers will continue to function according to our established COVID response plans, and as staffing dictates.
Given how highly-transmissible the Omicron variant is, please be extra vigilant about wearing your mask and keeping 6 of distance from others when youre able.
Thank you, Bree
Bree E. Derrick
Deputy Director
Idaho Dept. of Correction
